Next tutorial... SOON
|
This is more of a heads up than a release, since I've not had much time to do anything on my site I'm more or less telling you what will be coming next. I hope, this weekend that I shall have time to make a tutorial on making a basic character using Mesh Smooth, this tutorial would move on from the Manipulating shapes tutorial as it will make use of whats in that tutorial along with the Mesh Smooth modifier.
My intention is that the end result will be something similar to this guy here;
As cool as he looks you can see from the wire frame that it's rather simple. I guess it would me more accurate to refer to it as a she as this particular creature is missing a certain gender defining appendage. Never the less the tutorial will show you how to create something similar and then the following tutorial will then with any luck be a basic rigging tutorial, which will get you ready for animating more than a ball.

More Tutorials
|
So I've made up tutorials for 3ds max covering the basics as one of my assessments, and like just about all of my assessments i didn't get them done straight away, because that's what organized people do!
Anyway, here they are, I plan to make more that obviously wont be marked and assessed but i do plan to continue the same format, when i get time I'll start putting the tutorials page back together, but for the moment these links will have to do.
The first two are on Youtube but for what ever reason I'm having issues uploading, so ill have to try from another computer at some point, so the only place you can get the last 3 are here, right click the links and just go save as or something to that effect depending on your browser
01 - Tools.mp4 02 - Create.mp4 03 - Manipulate.mp4 04 - Texturing.mp4 05 - Animate.mp4
People who feel the need to give CONSTRUCTIVE feedback feel free to post here.. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?p=21684617

Tutorials, tutorials and... No just the two of 'em.
|
As promised I've started making tutorials again, just because they're part of my course and are being assessed should make no difference to my wanting to give. Maybe it makes a small difference but it does make finding time to record and make these tutorials all the more easier as i have the justification that it has an educational benefit, in the sense that if I understand it well enough to teach others then I've got a good grasp of the whole concept I'm trying to teach.
So the two tutorials are more introductory than anything else, the first one simply shows the basic tools and the other is about creating shapes and the parameters you can play around with before you even get as far as manipulating them. Manipulating shapes being the next tutorial in the list.
Tutorials I will be making (there will probably be more but these are the ones I'm making for my assessment)
- Tools (done)
- Creating Shapes (done)
- Manipulating Shapes
- Texturing
- Lighting
- Cameras
- Basic Animation
These tutorials are in a different aspect ratio and were intended to me create as MP4 files but recently it's moved to me simply throwing them on YouTube and emailing my teacher the urls so until they're all done you won't be finding them on my tutorials page. After assessment I will be redoing my tutorials page to accommodate the new tutorials and remove some of the old.
People wishing to download the tutorials until Ive added them to my tutorials page you can just replace the y in YouTube with a 3.

I'mjust realizing the sheer size of this post and thinking it might have been an idea to reduce the amount covered but that won't be happening now.
Edit: Reduced the space by putting them side by side, not that anyone would have noticed it took me 2minutes to think of it and make the change

Jumper Render
|
So I've redone most of the jumper, I started with the V3 which is the version currently being flown around in Garrys Mod. Then I just redid everything I didn't like which was actually a fair portion of it.

3D Dragon Render
|
I rendered a 360 degree tracking shot of the dragons head so far, mainly to show off what's been done and and to get feedback (Youtube and a certain forum).
I do plan to make the whole dragon and when I have the knowledge to animate it. For the moment this is really just feedback on the general design of the dragon.
I am aware of a few errors in the mesh, mentioned in the annotations, I'm not sure how I managed it but it seems I managed to make a black border around the video so my bad. In general though, im quite fond of the cartoon type look I've given it.

Tutorials Imminent
|
I've been talking to my tutor and now that I know what he wants I'll be making a start on tutorials. I've added a few lines at the top of my tutorials page asking for feedback. Any input about my current tutorials to help me improve them as best as I can.
I'm just going to say this now, alternate languages are probably not going to happen unless someone wants to re-voice my own tutorials but we'll blow up that bridge when it looks at us funny. I may make subtitles because that's not too much effort on my part. Another thing I should point out is that the downloadable version will be in Mp4 format as per specification of the brief (which I actually wrote myself with some prompting).
The area's covered by the tutorials will be Tools available, move, rotate rescale and so on. Creating basic shapes, what we have to work with. Manipulating shapes, converting the basic shapes into an editable poly or mesh. Texturing, Creating textures in max and applying them as well as importing images to use as a texture. Lighting a Scene (I'm still working out what to show here) Using Camera, Target and free camera's and messing with things like Field of View (FOV) Basic animation, rotating things moving cameras and lights for enhancing a scene.
Not as part of my assessment but I will be redoing the tutorials of making models for the source engine and advanced animation and texturing tutorials, using bones for animation as well as UVW and bump maps for the textures for more detailed textures.
Once these are all done, my current tutorials library will have been completely redone and bigger than it currently is.
People who have already looked at my older tutorials I'd like to hear what you think I could do to improve them. Email me here
